LUGOD and Davis Community Network

Refurbishing PC's:

LUGOD has been working with the Davis Community Network to help them install Linux on a set of old, refurbished PC's.

The PC's will then be distributed by DCN to schools, libraries, etc.

DCN typically meets to work on the refurbished machines at around 5:30pm on a weekday. See the LUGOD main page for any announcements of upcoming DCN meetings.

Linux Classes:

LUGOD is also working with DCN to host public, Linux-related classes.

The classes we've created so far are:

  • Introduction to Linux
November 15, 1999 - Presented by Bill Kendrick

  • Introduction to Linux
March 5, 2001 - Presented by Bill Kendrick

For More Information:

For more information on the project, contact Foo Lim of LUGOD, or Richard Lowenberg of DCN.

There is a DCN Committee in LUGOD, headed by Foo Lim:

The Davis Community Network (DCN) recognizes the wealth of information available to the public and the lack of computers to access them at the public access points such as schools. LUGOD works with DCN to install Linux distributions on donated older computer hardware. DCN will be the primary distributor of the computers throughout the community of Davis and surrounding areas. Installations are usually at 5:30pm Tuesdays or Wednesdays at the trailers at 1623 5th street between L street and Poleline which will be changed at the end of September. Thursday installations have been proposed.
