2010.09.20 Meeting Notes

Location

Explorit Nature Center

Project Reports

  • Installfests — The next Installfest will be this Saturday, September 25th, from 10am-4pm at N Street Cohousing (thanks to Dan Fiske for the venue and Alex Mandel for coordinating). The discussion topic will be "Virtual Machines."
  • LERT — No report.
  • Library — The portion of our now-defunct Lending Library that the CSU Bakersfield CS dept. wanted is still in Bill Kendrick's possession. Dr. Melissa Danforth said she'll be in the area, at LISA in San Jose, in November. If anyone from LUGOD is willing to take the books to her then, please let us know!

Other Business

  • News
    • Lance, a first-time visitor to LUGOD, happens to also be a Haiku user, and moved to Davis one day ago! He found out about us, and tonight's Haiku talk, thanks to DavisWiki.org!
    • The Davis branch of the Yolo County Library reopens in December, and LUGOD may begin meeting back there as soon as January.
  • Financial Report — $40.50 voluntary dues were collected tonight.
After many failed meet-ups, a letter has been written and sent, 'proof-of-delivery', to our previous treasurer, Henry House, asking for him to provide LUGOD's financial paperwork by mid-October. (If he doesn't or cannot, then at least we have proof that we tried to get it from him.)
  • Becoming a UC Davis "Campus Affiliate Group" — No report.
  • Explorit membership — Greg is ready to send a $75 donation to Explorit, but a correction needs to be made to last meeting's minutes, which Bill will make.

Presentation

  • Scott McCreary & Urias McCullough, of the Haiku Project, came to talk about and demonstrate the Haiku operating system (and talk about BeOS, which it seeks to reimplement).
  • Presentation slides (274KB PDF)
  • Photos of this meeting
