2010.08.16 Meeting Notes

Location

Explorit Nature Center

Project Reports

  • Installfests — No report. Alex Mandel and Bill Kendrick discussed holding an Installfest immediately following Software Freedom Day, in late September, so that visitors to our SFD booth (if we have one, e.g., at Farmer's Market) can go get Linux soon thereafter.
  • LERT — No report.
  • Library — The portion of our now-defunct Lending Library that the CSU Bakersfield CS dept. wanted is still in Bill Kendrick's possession. We're trying to figure out the best way to get them down there. Greg Lasher suggested Craigslist Ride Share.

Other Business

  • News — The next LUGOD social gathering at Crepeville (Sept. 7th) will also be a roundtable discussion and show-and-tell of Android-based mobile devices. The next LUGOD meeting will be on Sept. 20th, and will be about the Haiku operating system.
  • Financial Report — $22.00 in voluntary dues were collected tonight. $60.00 is due to the Post Office to renew our PO Box.

No news regarding California tax exempt status. We are still waiting to receive all previous financial material from LUGOD's previous treasurer, Henry House.

Action needs to be taken regard CA tax extempt status ASAP.
  • Becoming a UC Davis "Campus Affiliate Group" — No report.
  • Explorit membership — Greg FitzGerald (treasurer) and Bill Kendrick (president) agree that we can afford $75 donation to Explorit (and do this rather than bother getting a membership, since that would be wasted). A vote may be necessary for this to happen, and Bill and Greg will refer to the bylaws. If a vote is necessary, it will take place at the September meeting, otherwise [incomplete minutes corrected 2010.09.23 --bjk] Greg will cut a check and send the donation to Explorit.

Presentation

  • "Patent Absurdity: how software patents broke the system" was screened, and a short discussion among the audience took place
  • Photos of this meeting
