2004.01.06 Meeting Notes

News

  • Linux Kernel 2.4.24 fixes a local root exploit in memmap and a bug in RTC
  • Debian has announced 8 security announcements in the last 2 days!
  • SacLUG may no longer meet at ExitCertified. Brian Lavender is now working in Fremont.
  • TWiki creator speaks at SVLUG tomorrow.

Project Reports

  • Demo - The Demo at the Davis Food Co-Op on January 17th is still tentative. Henry had problems with the display; it may be the video card, but is more likely the DVI cable coming off of the monitor. We purchased a new demo machine (a mini-ITX form-factor) from Dave Margolis for $100.00.

  • Installfests - Seth Nagao and Jonathan Stickel have taken over as Installfest coordinators. The next IF will be the first Saturday event, on January 17th at UC Davis.

  • LERT - No news.

  • Library - Dave Margolis donated 3 books to LUGOD: Linux+ Certification Bible, Linux Administration: A Beginner's Guide and LPI Certification in a Nutshell (as well as a set of Knoppix discs).

Other Business

  • Raffle - We gave away "Migrating to Solaris" and "iTunes for Mac"

  • LUGOD Anniversary - We will be meeting at Ding How restaurant for our 5th anniversary meeting. It will be a social gathering.

  • Financial Report - $48.02 in voluntary dues were collected.

Presentation

  • Michael Wenk did a presentation on MySQL basics, which included some example programs in C and Perl.

    Presentation notes coming soon!
