News

  • KDE 3.0 beta coming in December
  • Linux Journal Editor's Choice awards. Winners include the game "Tribes 2" and Konqueror web browser, KDevelop IDE, and KDE-2 itself, from the KDE project.
  • Evolution release candidate 2 (RC2) released today
  • Apache HTTPD 2.0.28 beta released (tons of changes since April's last updates)
  • Microsoft calls Linux "the threat" in a leaked internal memo.
  • Samsung's Yopy PDA still not released, but redesigned with a flip-open keyboard.
  • Sharp's Zaurus PDA coming out (developers release) soon
  • ext3fs filesystem has been adopted by Linus, in Linux kernel 2.4.15pre2
  • Linus and Alan Cox agree to use Andrea Arcangeli's newer Virtual Memory system
  • Be shareholdsers ok the sale of Be assets to Palm
  • New Internet Explorer and Outlook exploit: cookies can be read or modified by attacker's websites or HTML e-mails!
  • ".biz" domains now available

Project Reports

  • Demo - November's demo has been cancelled due to proximity to Thanksgiving. Our next demo is tentatively planned for December 22nd.

  • Installfests - The last Installfest was yesterday. The next is scheduled for December 16th.

  • LERT - A recent LERT call to get a printer working. $15.00 donated.

  • Library - No library activity.

Other Business

  • LUGOD.org Move - Rod Roark has donated space on his colocated system for our website and mailing lists. The website is active, and DNS changes are occuring tonight. The lists should be moved within a few days.

  • Financial Report - $43.74 in voluntary dues were collected.

Presentation

  • Pete Salzman demonstrated Half-Life, available for Linux from Transgaming, thanks to their work on WineX.

  • Pete Salzman discussed Linux's new "devfs" hardware management system.
