Project Reports

  • Installfests — No report.
  • Hands-On Demo — We held a demo at the Davis Food Co-Op this past Saturday, as part of their month-long "Healthy, Wealthy and Wise" series of event. People were there chatting with us almost the entire time; probably around a dozen. It was run by Bill Kendrick, Tim Riley and Brian Lavender, with last-minute help from Alex Mandel.

Other Business

  • News — We received a hand-written letter at our PO Box, informing us of the existence of a non-profit in Maryland that collects used PCs and donates them to people in need. [More details to be posted here in the minutes.]
  • Becoming a UC Davis "Campus Affiliate Group" — No report.
  • Davis Community Network (DCN) Resource Allocation Committee) — No report.
  • Financial Report
    • $134.00 in donations were collected.
  • 13th anniversary celebration
    • Give-away prizes
Thanks to O'Reilly Media and Thinkgeek.com, we had a large collection of prizes that we gave away during a free drawing: "Linux shark" car stick-ons, Tux penguin baseball caps, a "Linux cheat sheet" t-shirt, a number of Tux penguin plushies, and a set of books!
    • Food
Thanks to Village Bakery in Davis for giving us a discount on pizza, and to Greg FitzGerald and Bill Kendrick for offsetting the cost of pizza (so that we could buy something tasty and local!). Thanks to Eric Engelhard and Bill Kendrick for buying cakes from Nugget Market in Davis. And thanks to Andrew Roach for supplying drinks, and Steve Inness for bringing a number of other treats.

    Presentation

    • Gabriel Dunne discussed "Processing" a popular open source programming language and environment used by scientists and artists alike to to create images, animations, and interactive exhibits.
      • Presentation notes (coming soon)
      • Photos (coming soon)
