LUGOD at the 2002 Whole Earth Festival

LUGOD participated in the 2002 Whole Earth Festival at UC Davis. The WEF took place between May 10th and 12th, from 8am-6pm (12pm-6pm Friday).

We were there Friday afternoon from 12pm to 6pm, and Saturday from 10am until we ran out of handouts at about 4pm.

Photos from Friday are online.

Why We Were There:

  • To talk to people about Linux, and get the word out about LUGOD
  • To hand out pamphlets containing information about LUGOD (our "Welcome" hand-out), and Linux (the Free Software and Open Source definitions, and links to useful sites)
  • To hand out pamphlets which explain why not to use Microsoft (viruses, bugs, privacy invasion, corporate strong arming, etc.)
  • To hand out copies of Linux (DemoLinux bootable CDROMs and Mandrake 8.1 discs)

Friday Booth Staff:
  • Nicole Carlson

  • Nicole Carlson, Doug Barbier, Hans Uhlig and Tom Burnett, for bringing their laptops by for people to look at
  • Marianne Waage for the card table.
  • Ryan Castellucci for the card table (we didn't use) and chairs
  • Jillian Clegg, of the Whole Earth Festival staff.
  • Bill Kendrick for gathering, photocopying and collating a total of 100 8-page pamphets and 60 5-page pamphlets.
  • Emily Stumpf, Christine Scobee, Jessica Luedtke, Matt Johnson, and the other LUGOD members who swung by to say "hi!"
