Celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the Internet
Panelists
Dr. Leonard Kleinrock - Professor of Computer Science at the
University of California Los Angeles
Charles Hoffman, President and CEO, Covad Communications
Charles H. Giancarlo, VP & CTO, Cisco Systems
Geoff Ralston, Chief Product Officer, Yahoo! Inc.
Moderator: Steve Yoder, Wall Street Journal, West Coast Bureau Chief
On October 29, 1969, Professor Leonard Kleinrock discovered the
underlying principles of today's World Wide Web when his UCLA lab
became the first node on the Internet. Since this historic connection
35 years ago, nearly half of all Americans have logged on to the
Internet and over 20% have high-speed broadband access today. Our
panelists will discuss the history of the Internet, including the
vision behind its initial design; the growth of corporate networks and
the role of the network in today's business environment; the current
trend towards convergence of voice and data; and how the Internet has
changed consumer behavior. Initial remarks by each panelist will be
followed by a lively discussion around their perspectives on the
future of the Internet.
