Re: [vox-tech] no boot on G4 laptop

Jan

The OSX boot CD has a disk utility on it.
If it won't boot from the CD you may have problems. Be sure to unplug all peripherals before you panic.

After you boot, it will come up to the install screen. Don't worry. You don't have to reinstall.
Under the Installer menu, at the first screen, you can get to the Disk Utility.

Run it.
If that doesn't fix it, you may need to do a clean install.
Choose the option of "Archive and Restore", which will preserve your user/network settings.

good luck!

Larry

We tried resetting the PRAM. No luck. Oh well.

My friend however, has not tried the boot from CDR. We'll try that tonight, I
guess. We'll see what happens then.

But thanks for all the great suggestions. As always, you guys rock.

Muchas gracias!

If that doesn't work, try a boot CD. Like a recovery CD. I think Macs
come with a basic diagnostics utilities on their recovery CD. To boot off
a CD, you probably need to press the following button as soon as you
power-on:

c

Yeah, just "c". ^_^ BTW, DON'T USE THE RECOVERY OPTION ON THE RECOVERY CD
UNLESS YOU'RE PREPARED TO WIPE EVERYTHING OFF THE HARD DRIVE! You've been
warned.
