[vox-tech] No chord middle - Not quite laptop + beer + cat

I dropped my mouse this morning. Its one of those Logitech, cordless,
optical mice (not that I think this really matters, or maybe it does).
After dropping I can't chord middle (i.e. to paste text) while in xterm, but
can in ssh.

my environment. I use my win2k box with putty (ssh client) to log in to my
debian woody box. then launch xterm which is displayed by exceed.

I'm at a loss as to what/where to look. I definitely don't want to spend
~$50 on a new mouse.
