yup:

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

is how you update all the packages on your system. you can just put it in
cron, and have the system update itself at 5am. when you wake up, you have
the newest versions of all the packages on your system.

i just aliased "update" to apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, so whenever i'm
waiting for lynx to load a page, i quickly switch over to another terminal
and type "update".
