i'm working on bringing the installfests back for the next academic year.
this email is to beg for volunteers. if you have any free time at all, we
need you. you don't even have to be an expert installer. we need people
to show up for a few hours to greet people, order pizza, help clean at the
end of the day and make sure people's stuff doesn't walk off.
this is a great opportunity -- it's a lot of fun, and frankly, i've learned
something new at each and every installfest. you can't help but learn linux
better when you install different distros on different machines.
and it's always a lot of fun.
the IF's will be held on the 3rd sunday of each month, from 10 to 3. you
don't have to show up for the whole thing. the next IF will be october 15
and will be hosted by taos mountain, meaning, they're buying the pizza and
will be sending 1 or 2 people to help install linux.
if you have any advocacy inside of you, or if you ever wondered if you can
help pay back the countless people who wrote the software sitting on your
machine right now, volunteering at the IF's is a good way to work off your
karma. helping linux proliferate and become the main OS of the 21st century
is one good way to put back a little something into the community.
there is no higher advocacy than installing linux.
if you have the time and inclination, please reply to me at
p@belial.ucdavis.edu.
thanks!
pete
ps- believe it or not, the compliment of the intersection of vox and
vox-tech is non-zero, so i posted to both lists.
