Since you asked ;-)

I'm in favor of Linux-related job postings from just about anywhere,
provided the emphasis remains on the Davis/Sacramento/East Bay region.

First, seeing what is available in other regions allows us to compare
our opportunities locally against national trends.

Second, when the local job market is weak, the out-of-area postings give
us the information we need to consider relocation.

Third, as a University town, Davis has *many* residents who are only in
the region for a few years, and who may anticipate moving out of the
area when they complete their sentenc^H^H^H^H^H^H^H degree program at
UCD. Many of them would like to see what's out there in the big world
beyond campus.

Finally, my current gig in the St. Louis, MO, area means I'm not
necessarily going to be looking for something in the Davis area... But
just 'cause I don't live in that area *right now* doesn't mean I don't
consider myself a member of LUGOD! If my contract were to evaporate
tomorrow, I'd like the assurance that vox-jobs might have a contact for
a position that wouldn't require me to uproot my family.

The drawbacks, of course, are that LUGOD members may be enticed out of
the area, reducing attendence and participation in LUGOD activities, and
that other subscribers may be unhappy to see postings that are
irrelevant to their current needs.

Officers will have to weigh these when they make policy decisions about
what sorts of jobs they'll allow to be posted to vox-jobs.

IMNSHO ;-)
