[vox-announce] elections and fond farewells

hi lugod,

bill and i are pretty sure we don't want to run for president and vice
president for the next election. bill is busy with his upcoming
marriage and i'm trying to graduate, as well as write a book for no
starch press. in addition, melissa is starting a new degree at sac
state, so she won't be running for secretary.

so now comes the big test; it has to happen sooner or later. lugod will
need to find people to give it life and direction.

i don't think anyone would be insane enough to sink as much time into
lugod as bill and i have, but hopefully, if enough people step up to
volunteer for various positions, nobody will have to.

i'd like to see the things that make lugod special, like two meetings a
month, monthly IF's and demos, various linux classes, etc survive. but
if the new management can't keep up with the frenetic pace at which
lugod runs, so be it. in any event, it's time for lugod to either sink
or swim.

to people who would consider the undertaking, just realize that lugod is
the best LUG, ever. nobody even comes close to competing with us. but
that doesn't mean you need permission from bill or i to make changes.
guide lugod as you see fit. i have molded the constitution and bylaws
to be very flexible.

i think i can safely speak for bill when i say that we'd both be more
than willing to help out. i'm pretty sure bill would stay on as
webmaster. i'll stay on as list manager, and would continue to do the
news at meetings. i'm hoping that rusty will continue to do the
installfests and henry will continue to be the treasurer. doug
barbieri, the newest officer, will be in charge of taping guest speakers
whose talks people show interest in.

in short, you'll have alot of good people helping you out. the
president simply serves to glue everyone together, implement policy and
run the meetings. the vice president is the "facilitator" -- the person
who makes absolutely sure things get done on time.

i'm hoping this sparks a conversation about who wants to take over
presidency, vice presidency and secretary. all that's required is some
free time, a vision, and a passion about linux and the LUG. you don't
need to be a linux guru. remember, bill and i will always be there for
you, at least in some capacity.

it's been a fun and exciting few years, and i couldn't possibly be
prouder of all of you than i am.

if you wanted to become an active member of lugod but were intimidated
by the cult of bill and pete, now is your time to shine.

so long, and thanks for the fish.

ps- you may want to switch this thread to vox. i sent it to
vox-announce just to make sure it reached the whole club.
