[vox-announce] Oct. 15th LUGOD Meeting: Dr. Norman Matloff of UC Davis
The Linux Users' Group of Davis (LUGOD), will be holding a meeting on:
Monday
October 15, 2001
6:30pm - 9:30pm
The meeting will be held at:
Z-World, Inc.
2900 Spafford Street
Davis, CA 95616
The topic will be:
"Debunking the Myth of a Desperate Software Labor Shortage"
presented by Dr. Norman Matloff, UC Davis
Summary: Due to an extensive public relations campaign orchestrated by
an industry trade organization, the Information Technology Association
of America (ITAA), a rash of newspaper articles have been appearing
since early 1997, claiming desperate labor shortages in the
information-technology field. Frantic employers complain that they cannot
fill many open positions for computer programmers. However, software
employers, large or small, across the nation, concede that they receive
huge numbers of resumes but reject most of them without even an interview.
