LUGOD PSA for KDVS Radio 90.3 FM Linux is a free, Unix-like operating system which has been developed by a loosely-knit team of programmers across the Internet. It is known for its stability, security and portability. Linux provides a true multiuser, multitasking environment and runs on many different types of computer hardware. LUGOD, the Linux Users' Group of Davis, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Linux as a free alternative to proprietary commercial OSes, and provide a social setting in which users in the community can meet to share ideas, technical know-how and friendship. LUGOD meets on the first Tuesday and third Monday of each month at 6:30pm at the offices of Z-World: 2900 Spafford Street in east Davis. Meetings include talks on different aspects of Linux, providing demonstrations of different free Linux software as well as presentations on a range of topics, such as computer programming.
